Artmusic.TV supporters will remember this young flautist, who performed as soloist, aged 11, with the Gauteng Philharmonic Orchestra. He is now 16 years old and we are proud to present him in a solo recital our our platform.
Daniël Spies (16) started playing the flute in 2016 with Helen Vosloo as his teacher. In 2018 he was runner- up in the Hubert van der Spuy Music Competition, winning the Audience -, Baroque - , and Best Woodwind Prizes. The following year he was the overall winner of the National Eisteddfod Association’s Young Performers Awards. In 2020 Andrea Lieberknecht (Hochschule München) invited Daniel to take part in her masterclasses in Germany and this year (2022) he was invited again to join her masterclasses in April.
In 2021 he started with online lessons with Petri Alanko (Sibelius Academy,Helsinki), while he continues to learn from Helen Vosloo.During the National Youth Music Competition held in December 2021, Daniël won the overall third prize as well as the category prize for Best Woodwind player.
Daniël frequently performs as soloist with Gauteng orchestras. With pianist Michael Tsalka, heperformed Mozart concerto KV 503 & 466 as chamber music arrangement by Hummel.
In addition to playing the flute, Daniël enjoys composing and transcribing music.
